"Once upon a time, wearing the Sex Pistols or Ramones on your chest was its own act of rebellion."
I just heard a great podcast that chronicles the rock t-shirt with an interview with Swedish music writer Johan Kugelberg. Live Nation be damned, here's a snippet from the show:
"Kugelberg actually wrote a book about rock band T-shirts. He says 60s rock T-shirts are "insanely rare," because they weren't mass-market products. According to Kugelberg, "... the mass-market rock business as we know it didn't really exist until post-Woodstock."
The soundtrack to the podcast alone makes it worth a listen! I can't remember ever coveting a rock tee. Plus, I cut up all my good tee shirts during the Flash-dance era.

Cheers for the link. Ironically enough, I'm wearing a very mainstream Joy Division T-shirt right now. Lol!
