Looks like the people of New Orleans haven't lost their sense of humor in the midst of crisis. I only hope those who chose to stay are staying safe. I listened to a couple of NPR reports from people who were actually in the midst of the hurricane (one guy was on a BOAT!) and most are saying that it's been downgraded and not as intense as Katrina and the support systems in place (are actually in place) and working well. Damn, and I thought New Englanders were supposed to be the plucky ones. Fingers crossed.

My Trusted MOGs
To participate in a senseless drunken tally like that almost makes me miss drinking.

It was with a great sense of relief that I learned Gustav had weakened and wasn't as severe as feared by the time it hit NoLa. Still, certain areas were hammered, and there may be more storms in the offing. Let's hope they're even less of a risk. Those levees won't really be secure for a few more years, so luck is a factor here. BTW, I wanna recommend the documentary "Trouble the Water," playing in NYC and LA right now, with plans for it to roll out to other markets. It's a terrific first-person account of Katrina with home video by a Lower Ninth Ward resident from the days before, during and after, archive stuff, and footage by a real film crew in the aftermath. Powerful.

I saw that sign the other day. I feel sorry for the people who are still in staging areas but I'm glad that not so many people were hurt. Mike my Netflix queue is getting full with all of your Doc-u-recommendations. Keep em coming. Apparently Gustav is in a holding pattern spiraling right above me in NW Arkansas where it plans to spin for a few days. I'm under a flood watch. Luckily it's a hilly terrain that doesn't flood much except in parts. Supposed to get 7" to 9" of rain over the next two days.
