After paying one penny less than 4 bucks a gallon for gas, I started thinking about my almost hour commute to work and back each day. How about getting some of the "best driving songs":http://ask.metafilter.com/72811/Best-driving-songto keep my toes a-tapping (while safely on the brake/gas peddle) and my endorphins a-multiplying so I don't fall into a deep panic regarding my diminishing finances? Great idea!

  1. waydutch says You might have trouble finding a copy of this but it sure fits the bill... .
    . . . Otherwise, here's a classic driving song that come to mind - Radar Love by Golden Earring 1973 . .

  2. ongoingly says that's so cool you posted that Golden Earring song Dutch! It's on a ton of "best of lists" and I'd never heard it before! Thanks! I am secretly hoping many moggers will post their favorites so i can make a special driving playlist...(ad who are thr elvis brothers? any relation to Him?)

  3. yummygatalover says Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers! I forget to listen to a lot of music and thanks to you and mog i get reminded all the time of past faves! So cool you put this up ongoingly! Waydutch...The Elvis Brothers are rockin'! Never heard of them so hats off to you as well! Here are a couple of songs good to go for your post... I cannot tell you how much i love the Ridin' in my car song by NRBQ. Just floors me the way these boys put this beauty together. I hope you enjoy it half as much as i do. The red button is also NRBQ and is Get that Gasoline Blues. Peek-A-Boo is a Best of 2 cd set that i would say is a must have if you like that good old rock with the roll still included. Ha! look at where the red button ends up! I can't move the damn thing! I'll leave it ...it looks good where it landed!

  4. Jonh Ingham says The first song on The Hold Steady's 'Boys and Girls of America' is real elbow on the window sill summer driving music. On the electronic tip, 'Bostich' by Yello is perfect. And when you need to calm down driving home, the entire album of Ali Farka Toure & Toumani Diabate 'In The Heart of the Moon' is perfect - very relaxing but very engaging for the ears.

  5. darmuzz says I think that electro-disco like Metric, Goldfrapp, CSS and You Say Party! We Say Die! are all good driving music. I also like the neo-garage-rock bands like The Hives and The Strokes. Would seriously not recommend moody stuff like Sigur Ros or Six Organs of Admittance...zzz

  6. yummygatalover says Darmuzz just beat the crap out of me! Never mind my picks... hers rock! Metric is disco Darmuzz? yippeee i'm disco freak then! C'mon ! they are not! I'm telling Emily what you said.... I'll go send a message on myspace right now if you don't take it back. It says ROCK ROCK ROCK right on their profile and Emily Haines has her solo stuff put down correctly as Black Metal. Just listen to Doctor Blind and i'm sure you'll agree...full shred guitars screaming gutteral vocals and all that double kick bass drum are a sonic assault to be reckoned with. But ongoingy don't drive anywhere with this track playing.... especially if the doctor has prescribed those blue ones! This whole comment is not my fault....blame it on too much chocolate.

  7. ongoingly says You all are a bunch of awesome music wonks. THANKS. Based on all your suggestions (John..I totally forgot about Yello, THANKS!) I am going to assume that "Believe" by Cher should NOT be added to the mix. And Darmuzz, I really like the Hives and Strokes, is Sigur Ross that Swedish metal band from the 80s? Yummy, try a nice mild milk chocolate...it has less a % of cocobeans! ;-)

  9. darmuzz says Ongoingly, no, Sigur Ros is a majestic, atmospheric Icelandic band, very soothing Yummygata, Metric's "Old World Underground" album is way indie-disco, just listen to "Succexy"! (Will agree with you completely that "Live It Out" is not)

  10. ongoingly says I wonder who I was thinking about? hmm. I know that I've heard Sigur Ros, tho...thanks Darmuzz!
