Sunday Under the Covers: The Story Behind the Song
-
Artist:
-
Album:Zoolander
-
Track:He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother

Add this song's origins (one of my favorite covers..I can't resist a mournful harmonica) to my ever-growing list of "I Did Not Know This" items. There's more here and here and here. The Google is an amazing thing.
"Boys Town, and the film of the same name starring Spencer Tracey, inspired the writing of The Hollies' classic, He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother by Americans Bobby Scott and Bobby Russell."

Very nice.
I was thinking about you & your loss when I posted this...
nice and easy like my sunday
@ongoingly...I think I sensed that...thank you...it means a lot.
I knew the source of the lyrics, but hadn't heard Rufus do the number (which may have an extra layer of meaning when he sings it). Good one!
D-man, you're welcome...I'm thinking about you.
Mike-I saw Rufus live a few years ago...he's such a dynamic performer. And I think he does this song with heart.
I dunno, I'm a little creeped out with the priest touching the boy while super-gay Rufus sings. Probably just me.
O lordy. It's SPENCER TRACY! And everyone knows he had no libido! No one in his era did!
Have you talked to Katherine Hepburn lately?
And if there was no libido in that era, how did we get here? The stork?
Yes, HOW did we get here when everyone slept in separate beds, and kissed with their lips shut?
Turkey basters?
why does there have to be some sort of bird involved?
