Lenny Kravitz; a living rock legend in every sense of the meaning. I own every Lenny CD... except Baptism - I just can't stand the cover. Y'know the one, where he traded the Jew-fro for the Andre Benjamin style bob. That was such a sad look for Lenny. So sad, I personally just pretend it didn't happen lol. But all is forgiven with his latest offering, "It Is Time For A Love Revolution" - it's a return to the Lenny of old (by old I mean pre-Baptism) good quality rock. The funk has been restored so to speak. And on a quick browse through the trash heap that is google, I see apparently he's been celibate for 3 years now.

Which kind of begs the question, since his new album rocks harder than the last album, and he's been holding out for 3 years, does that mean Lenny Kravitz fucked too much during the recording of Baptism? You be the judge lol... album details below - I decided to post another track off the album instead of I'll Be Waiting 'cos it's been posted already, it's called "Love Love Love". On first listen it's got alot of potential - an undeniable LK sound and shows promise as a radio single.

Also, if you head over to http://www.lennykravitz.com/ you can hear a 3.30 clip of another track from the album "Bring It On" which is also pretty good, solid listening.

Street Date: Feb 5th 2008

Track Listing:

1. Love Revolution 2. Bring It On 3. Good Morning 4. Love Love Love 5. If You Want It 6. I'll Be Waiting 7. Will You Marry Me 8. I Love the Rain 9. A Long and Sad Goodbye 10. Dancin' til Dawn 11. This Moment is All There Is 12. A New Door 13. Back in Vietnam 14. I Want To Go Home

LOL!!!!! So true... Every now and again I look at that cover and shudder. There are some good songs on Baptism though, I love Lady but can't stand Where Are We Running. I'm kinda pissed it [Love Revolution] didn't get released sooner 'cos the more I listen to it, the more I love it - this could have easily been my summer album and probably will be even though the Kiwi Summer is drawing to a close.

Artist: Album: Radio 1. Established 1967 Track:

Happy 40th Birthday BBC Radio 1!

Specifically recorded for this album by some of todays top musicians, they cover a track from every year from 1967-2007. 40 tracks, 40 artists, 40 years.

And while I am neither British or a listener of Radio 1 (I live in New Zealand) I couldn't help myself upon browsing through the track listing and it dawned on me; I must own this tasty little clusterfuck of covers. It reads like a whose who of todays popular and obscure covering classics of yesterday. Normally I avoid cover albums like the plague, generally they have been pretty shit in the past, example 50 First Dates Soundtrack, mostly covers and mostly a big bunch of ass to listen to. But this, this is fucking brilliant quite frankly.

Some of the songs are easily vomit material, like Mika & Armand Van Heldons cover of The Polices' I Can't Stand Losing You or The Streets appalling cover of Elton Johns' classic Your Song (Mike Skinner would have been politer in pissing on Elton Johns' piano rather than attempting to cover one of his songs) - but there are some seriously good covers on here - and I don't know where to start. Foo Fighters covering Wings' Band On The Run, Mutya Buena does Tracy Chapmans' Fast Car - a total vixen version of Roxy Music's Love Is The Drug covered by Kylie. Even Lily Allen doesn't molest The Pretenders' Don't Get Me Wrong too much and she grows on me like a bad fungal infection with every passing day, bless her!

Some of my immediate favs were; Kylies' Love Is The Drug, The Kooks All That She Wants, The Foos Band On The Run & Lily Allens Don't Get Me Wrong.

So anyway, I highly recommend it, there is bound to be something on her to tickle your happy parts. Full track listing is below, street date was October 1st, so I'm a bit behind here but I will still class this as a review.

HOLY MOTHER ! I just had the BEST time listening to this (a few times). This has got to be my all time fave Wings song! Foo Fighters are "right now" like Led Zeppelin was (is) to me - all time favorite power rockers - such a mix - Dave is so fuckin' COOL choosing this tune. That intro change just kills me - so choice! I only wish Nate would have done the little riff at 3:38 ... (I miss the acoustic change) and I only wish it didn't seem rushed there at the end. As much as I love Foo - this just didn't have the soul (or even the tasty rockin') that Macca had in the 70s. (Sorry I cut my teeth too much on that original album and I'm partial...and thanks for sending me on a Wings binge again). Then again, it's totally (kickass) Foo Fighter...is this the only album they've released this on?? Thanks for the post man - indeed!! :)

As I sit listening over a promo copy of the new Korn album "Untitled", I can't help feeling slightly disillusioned with the current sound of Korn. Don't get me wrong, I ain't hating but you can't deny that there was a certain appeal to earlier albums, the first 3 albums Korn, Life Is Peachy & Follow The Leader all have such a unique sound and style that more recent releases have been severely lacking in. In saying that, despite a different direction in sound, I can still hear one or two standout tracks on the first listen that remind me of the earlier Korn I fell in love with. Funny I should say that since guitarist Head (Brian Welch) is no longer in the band and drummer David Silveria is 'on hiatus' or whatever the fuck that means these days and now the depature of Terry Bozzio as replacement drummer because - and I quote Jon Davis here "Things got weird". LOL x 1,000,000!!!

Some have said 'too many political overtones' which, on first glance don't seem too apparent - an album with a social conscience - Jon Davis argues in regards to Evolution that it's not so much political but more that it's a concern about the state of the planet for future generations.

It sure is a pretty video nonetheless lol. So is the album artwork. Theres a few samples below. All in all, I'd have to give it a calculated 16 and a half out of 53 (I'm not down with this 5/10 bollocks etc). Theres old Korn sounds, theres overtones of Nine Inch Nails - due to one of the producers being Atticus Ross, known fellow industrialist and Trent Reznor plaything as well as some more obvious and braver moves in different directions, some of the songs are a little softer than what you would ever expect from Korn (Hushabye) yet still manage tear vocal chord strips during the chorus. It's worth a lookysee. Check on it!!

Album Stats:

Street Date: July 31st '07 First Single: Evolution Producers: Atticus Ross & The Matrix Tracks: 01. "Intro" 02. "Starting Over" 03. "Bitch We Got a Problem" 04. "Evolution" 05. "Hold On" 06.
