My Main Problem with MOG

Posted almost 5 years ago
The main problem I have with MOG is the fact that I have nothing to say. Defeats the purpose of the OG part. (I just really dig the M.) I mean I don't go to shows anymore, the last being Tori Amos in 2002 or 03 so I won't write about that sort of thing. And why would I "review" an album or what have you? If I'm playing it, it's probably good. If I'm playing it a lot, it's probably very good and if it's looping constantly it's quite likely that it's better than chocolate covered cherries. On the flip side, I don't generally read reviews as I don't really go to shows. And I understand that no matter how much someone raves about a disc or an artist, I still have to give it a go. If it's alright, it's alright and if it ain't... it just ain't.
Where this leaves me, is feeling more like a bystander than a participant. That isn't always a bad thing in life (I was recently a bystander at a motorcycle accident which, for my money, is better than being a participant.) but it does seem to conflict with the concept of that OG I mentioned. And that makes me wonder just how useful MOG really is to me.
(HA! You thought I was gonna bitch about M-O-M, the craptacularness of Gracenote, the Facebook fiasco or some other such thing. Didn't you?!)

  2. Wahiawa786 says I have the small advantage of pushing a small part of the World music genre. Hawaiian, fortunately, is an ever-changing genre, going from hapa haole in the 1950's to electric in the 1970's to Reggae and Traditional at present. I can't remember the last concert I paid for, but I continue to buy music CDs and listen to other .mp3s on the site. If something moves you, leave a comment. Does this or that track trigger memories? What were you doing when you first heard a track? It's not hard to write about something once you break up the grand expanse of space in the comment box. So, in the (paraphrased) words of R. Lee Ermey: "Gimme 25 words on that, maggot!" (It also helps if your musical tastes are...varied.)
