WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Sister Hazel at The Jupiter

Posted over 3 years ago
Alright, Sister Hazel at The Jupiter on the Strip in Tuscaloosa. I really don't have much to say about this concert.... I've seen Sister Hazel in their better days. They know how to pump a crowd, and plug their albums. So they mostly played a lot of new stuff, and of course had to mix in their radio-played songs. I was really disappointed with the show, it just seemed like an obligatory drive-by concert. And there was just a two song encore.... I mean, come on. We were worth at least three, Sister Hazel.

  2. nik3787 says yeah, they're still rockin it. They like Alabama for some reason, they come here quite often and play in B'ham about every three months... I think they need to give it up though. I don't know, a lot of people seemed to enjoy the concert, and I'm sure there were huge fans there, I just didn't connect with them at all..

  3. lemontwist says Interesting. Sister Hazel is one of those bands I never bothered to explore more than just listening to their All For You song on the radio. But that song came out when I was first getting into music, so it has that deep nostalgic touch for me. I couldn't tell you if they ever made more songs or albums, but I still dig that song. There were lots of cool one hit wonder bands from that era. And some cool not just one hit wonders as well. I had no idea the Gin Blossoms were still around until I saw them this past June (and again in September, sort of). Part of me is like, cool, I love this band, they remind me of 10 years ago. And another part is like, all right, this music is still okay... but not nearly as good as the album they put out back in ninety-whatever. But I guess as long as they're enjoying it... though it does suck when they're just washed up and not really doing anything fun anymore, which is what your concert experience seemed to indicate. That just sucks. Nobody likes to see a dead horse get beat.

  4. nik3787 says Yeah, I know what you mean, I honestly prefer to see dead cows get beaten... ha. I saw Everclear a few weeks ago at the same venue as Sister Hazel, and they're doing the same thing, playing their old, radio rotated favorites and trying to plug a new album.... The only original guy left is the lead singer, I can't remember his name. But it rocked and you get that old nostalgic feeling, and then you remember that you're getting old when you remember these songs coming out.

  5. lemontwist says Art Alexakis, I think, or something like that. Yeah, Everclear played a festival nearby which I would have gone to if I hadn't been en route to a half marathon (sometimes things take priority over music, though it isn't often). And I only would have gone because of (a) morbid curiosity (b) the festival was free (c) the festival generally kicks ass and I hadn't been in years. I used to love them about 10 years ago (or whenever, yeah, okay, I feel sort of old now, even though I'm not really that old), but then I decided that I couldn't hear another one of his songs about how much he hates his dad. :) But, still, yeah, thinking about all of those songs from back in the day definitely makes me feel nostalgic. There was just something about discovering this "new" kind of music for the first time that was mind-blowing, and I knew it even then. I'd be glued to my radio listening to all sorts of great songs. I even made radio mix tapes, and to this day I'm still angry that I threw them out about 5 or 6 years ago...
