WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Cos I'm Omniscient

Posted over 3 years ago
I'm finally having an evening to myself and the stereo - sans wine, alas - and was flailing around to Faith No More's Live at Brixton Academy...a mediocre live recording, at best, but a servicable substitute for my copy of The Real Thing on cassette, which is still in some random box in my ex's mother's house.Hello, Jerry Springer.Listening to "Zombie Eaters" (a lot) was rather a formative experience for me. Let people have their G'n'R - which I still do - and their Slayer and their realmetalbandthat'shotonHeadbanger'sBall, but from then on I gravitated to music that could...well, hinted at sending one's sanity over the edge. FNM could have very well been the reason why I was open to Khanate and Sunn O)))'s Black One.I have Lhasa's The Living Road on at the moment, but only because I was looking for a long-buried copy of Patton/Kaada's Romances. And it's been found and is waiting for me to finish writing this post.Very metaphorically and musically speaking, I'm falling in love with Mike Patton all over again. I haven't kept tabs on his work, so I turn to the MOS: Where should I go for my next Patton fix? What new and exciting ways can he alternately massage and thrash my neurons?

  4. Viva La Britt says If you're seeking something similarly mind-bending, try Tomahawk's _Mit Gas_ or Fantomas (_Suspended Animation_, perhaps?) on for size.

  5. rvnlft says you want more patton? try Lovage - "Music to Make Love to Your Old Lady By" and General Patton Vs. The X-Ecutioners - "Joint Special Operations Task Force" and Eyvind Kang - "Virginal Co Ordinates (Live)" and Mr. Bungle (all 3 albums) and Maldoror - "She" and The Dillinger Escape Plan - "Irony Is A Dead Scene" maybe these will fill your patton fix

  6. ilcv says Look through his Ipecac catalgoue, that's his label, and where his Fantomas stuff is released (as well as Tomahawk). Also, anything Mr. Bungle has ever done.
