End of the Old Lang Syne

Posted about 4 years ago
It took me over 20 years to decide how I felt about 1970's soft rock.It was the natural environment for a child born in 1976, and it's forever tied to drives through the fading central New Jersey countryside, sunsets bleeding in to the orange vinyl seats of a 1974 Volvo 164.But it was also tied to the limited, agoraphobic record collection. It was a denial of the true (emotional) violence and pervasive sickness of our family. For a time, for good or ill, it was the only music I would be able to get lost in.Time, being what it is, meant that I would revisit those songs when I felt a tad more...secure about my own life. I learned that, yes, everything is better with a little Michael McDonald. So "Same Old Lang Syne" made its way to my ultra-cheesy holiday mix. "Odd that Dan Fogelberg is now gone.":http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071217/ap_en_mu/obit_fogelberg It's something else that I don't know quite what to think about yet. Perhaps, years from now - say, when I've moved into my first house, or started going to back to school - I'll realize that I may have missed something.
