WE DO THE MASHED POTATO AND THE FUNKY CHICKEN

Label upon label gave up on Steve Forbert in the years following "Romeo's Tune"; not many deep pockets seek spare change vocals. Take away who he was supposed to be (the next Dylan, and who's not?) and who he never became (no Tweedy-esque rise & what a shame) and you'll find a truckstop-busker at ease with a creaky middle seat. "Oh, To Be Back With You" haunts, but pleasantly; tune sweet & voice sad, it misses what's gone, regrets what's happened, and quietly longs for another chance.

  9. Mike the Knife says Maybe he could team with Tweedy and Cline on something. How cool would that be?

  10. steveva says Actually he did collaborate with Tweedy's band, Wilco (i don't think tweedy participated). One of Forbert's best (i have time all), but not well-known albums, Rocking Horse Head. Worth picking up.
