MOG MOG

BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

(60)

I'm headed to Ireland next week, for a brief wandering spell, for a touch of personal sorting-through & soul-settling. I've never been, and haven't much of a plan beyond "see, listen & write."

Are you from Ireland, in Ireland, familiar with? I'd love your thoughts, your warnings, your music.

That last one, I warmly request of all of you who've already given me so many songs I'll be packing for the trip. Would you pass along your best songs of adventure, inward & outward? I always need the help - and would love for the audio discoveries of this trip to begin right here at home.

Off the top of my head I know fellow Mogger FluxCapacitor lives in Dublin. Have a great time. I have many friends who went there for looonng periods of time and have only great things to say. Have a great time. You'll love it.

@ SR - thanks for the heads-up on the corrupt song, I replaced it. And what a sweet track to kick off a travel mix!

@ FS - can't think of a cooler place to honeymoon. Did you guys rent a car or go by train/bus?

Rented a car. Landed in Shannon went to Doolin (1 day), Dingle (2 days), and then Dublin (2 days). Flew out of Dublin. It was a great time. Wished I could've stayed a month.

I've been many times and must say the two experiences most enjoyable are touring castle ruins and hearing traditional Irish music (not always easy to find).

And - stay in B and Bs so you can meet and talk with Irish people, the friendliest in the world. Just wonderful.

My parents had the good sense to take me away from the place when I was quite young. However, I did go back to visit about 15 years ago. If you've read Ulysses, the Joyce museum in the Martello tower at Sandy Cove is worth a visit (DART from Dublin), as is the gentleman's nudie bathing spot. (It says no women allowed, but you can be pretty sure that in November there won't be a lot of bathing going on.)
If you've not read Ulysses and don't have a few days to spare, grab a copy of Dubliners or Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.

Agreed, ask our Fluxy, he will give you a lowdown. He'll surely guide you well.

From a practical point of view, I can say that it rains ALot. You will enjoy a good pubcrawl. They have beautiful cathedrals. Museum of Modern Art is a hit and miss for me. They are quite friendly people. Gallery of Photography might have a cool exhibition going on. I also enjoyed Boulevard Gallery, but I see that it's not open this time of year. Have a good trip.

Wonderful! Thanks to all of you!

Max - I have read Ulysses, and though I'm not the full-on Bloomsday kinda kid, I'm still enough of a Joyce fan to check out the various haunts & museums. Thanks for the heads-up.

Anna - my, my I cannot wait for the rain. Constant LA sun's gonna do me in. :)

My excellent Max Load has said it all. If I may add perhaps a reading suggestion: The Bewolf the translation by Seamus Heaney.

If you can someone wearing this kind of t-shirt, you can be sure he'll share a pint of Guinness with you very soon ;)

Have a splendid trip in the land of the harp and the shamrock.

The other thing you need to know is how Irish conversation works. Every now and then (like maybe every other sentence) you imagine what your interlocutant is going to say next. And they do the same. Then you don't say it and simply move on to the next bit of the conversation. If you guessed right it's hilarious. And if you guessed wrong it's hilarious too.

I have decided to post an intstramental for you. For whatever reason, the music sings of longing for another place to me. May your travels physically and mentally be safe. I hope Ruby's Wishes come true and you get everything you need from your trip to Ireland.
