Lately, the talk has been about some of the newest hip-hop losing its roots (I'm talking about you Soulja Boy) of soul and funk.
The discussion was spark off after running across Naughty By Nature's classic track O.P.P (if you want to know what that means check out urban dictionary ). Naughty By Nature samples a motown classic (ABC by the Jackson 5).
ABC is also used in a dance sequence in the movie "Clerks 2".
My daily commute consist of 15 minutes of the best 97.1 has to offer in Atlanta. They usually rotate in new (old) songs and then play them for a while.
A recent play was a Three Dogs Night song that I couldn't credit to them. I know Joy to the World and even saw One Dog Night (Danny Hutton) in concert when I was little.
When Mama Told Me (Not To Come) the high pitched energetic song brought out my falsetto car singing catastrophe (I'm a bass). Anyways, I've learn to appreciate the song and have lowered my voice to give more credit to a great American rock band.

Don't worry about how low or high your voice is on this song. Randy Newman, the composer of "Mama Told Me Not To Come" sings in his own distinctive way. (I think my voice is more like Kermit the Frog.)

Wait, don't they say what OPP stands for in the song as well? Sweet clip, I still haven't seen that movie! And I feel you on Soulja Boy. I can't hate on him enough.
