I'm posting these a bit out of order - Kelley Stoltz was the subject of my fourth video podcast, however he was one of the first ones I ever shot. I noticed his album at number one on the best of the year list from fellow mogger Jenny, so I felt inspired to post it. In case you didn't know, Stoltz's third release - Below the Branches (Sub Pop, 2006) reflects the influences both of his childhood heroes and the obscure classic sounds to be found at Grooves - the record shop where he works (pictured above). Songs flow seamlessly, hopping from folk to blues to motown to classic rock and roll, all sealed with Stoltz own personal stamp. It's fitting that he toured with the Raconteurs, given the quartet and Stoltz share a unique ability to pay homage to the sounds of the past, while making it sound like the music of the future.

Thanks so much for this. I've heard nothing but good words about Stoltz but haven't managed to get my hands on any recordings yet. UK sucks for acquiring American music outside the mainstream. Saw the Raconteurs a few weeks ago and was really hoping he'd be supporting, but we we're presented with a Norwegian band whose name I forget already.
That's a cool job you. I'm turning green with envy here ;)
Does the store have an overseas mail order service?

This is still my favourite of your video interviews/films Will.
two reasons, I love his music, and I want that record store.

Fantastic. Thank you. The podcast is great...the thing that pushed me over the edge and got me to buy the record.

Rats, I have dial-up, so I can't watch the video...but my hat's off to anyone who loves Kelley Stoltz. First Chris Brokaw, then Kelley, we are obviously on the same wave length.
