Also be on the lookout for Neutral Milk Hotel's In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, which is very inspired by Balkan/Romanian (gypsy) folk music, although it doesn't have much in common with Devotchka or Beirut. The lead singer of NMH also made a field recording of tradtional gypsy music being played at traditional festivals...it's called Orange Twin Field Works, Vol. 1.
