WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Just saying. Finally, after years, I checked out "Song Cycle" by Van Dyke Parks and it was as if my head was a football and Van Dyke Parks kicked it right off my body to make the world's greatest field goal. Okay, so sport-related illustrations are not my thing, but this album is my thing. The music on this album has no rules. Like everyone here, I don't just love music, I am obsessed with it. When I'm not listening to it or writing it, I'm thinking about it. That being said, I react to a lot of different music, but it's usually just emotional. Maybe the lyrics break my heart or say what I feel or the music makes me happy (or sad)....whatever it is, it's emotional. Song Cycle effected all my senses. It was...cosmic. I've never felt that way about music in my life.So if you want to listen to something different, find "Song Cycle". It blew by everything I've ever listened to and is so easily my favourite album of all-time.AND while you're at it...Van Dyke Parks...damn, I think he is a superhero or something. Look at all the work he's done, for realz. It's insane. And believe it or not, "Song Cycle" isn't even his best album, they are all astonishing, wondrous, arresting, and any and every word you like.Van Dyke Parks is a national treasure, and I think he should live in the Smithsonian.Don't get me started on his arrangements...

  2. mywindingwheel says Yeah, different for sure. This is from his first album, released in 1968 (my favourite year in music...because I WAS there...). He's insane. Guaranteed there's music you listen to that he's had a part in, whether he produced it, arranged it, was a session musician, etc. Nuts, I tell ya.
