Is it bad that I've been finding more new music through television commercials than anywhere else? (No offense, MOG. I've been slack in visiting the site. Mostly because I've been watching so much crap TV.)

Anyway! I come to you with yet another artist found via a commercial, this time through Apple. Her name is Yael Naïm, and the song is entitled New Soul. Quite catchy if you ask me, and she has a beautiful voice. I'll have to go in search of more of her music this week.

No mp3, but I've found a video for the song on YouTube:

edit: mp3 found! listenlistenlisten.

Thank you so much for looking it up, and for providing the video. Not sure if you're the same member who found Feist, but without the information on her, I would have never found her video either. She's the one who did "1-2-3-4 one, two, three four tell me that you love me more," and I just love her sweet tone & softness. I'll bet that both Feist and Yael Naim would have NEVER made it past Simon on American Idol, because they only seem to like loud, obnoxious screamers. The louder they scream and have those harsh gruff voices, the more the panel likes them.

I gotta agree with you, ohlab. Kelly Clarkson is one example of the fine yellers they pick.

The song in a recent JC Penny commercial caught my attention this week, so I decided to search for the band responsible. I came across The Weepies. I know. Crazy name, right? Immediately, I went in search of an album, returning with two: Say I Am You and Happiness, both of which are very good. This song stood out to me on the first pass over both albums:

World Spins Madly On

I know my street cred around here is going to plummet for this, but I actually heard this song on an episode of One Tree Hill and fell in love with it. The whole album is really good, but this is the standout track for me. Thanks for posting the video.

On the recommendation of a friend I've obtained two albums by The National: The Alligator and Boxer. I have yet to make it past the first song of Boxer, Fake Empire. No, it's not bad. In fact, I kind of like it..so much so that since I sat down here 20 minutes ago, it's played three times. I don't know what it is I like about it.

Because I'm now in the habit of making others suffer through my current musical addiction, I'll throw the song up here for all to enjoy. Hope you like it!

I hear Aimee Mann here somewhere, or perhaps an influence. (In fact, if you lowered the voice a 5th it would sound like her.) Also I'm a bit flummoxed by the meter of this song--it seems like they can't decide on a time signature. The great solution would be to use polyrhythm (2 against 3). Seems like they attempted it mid-song, but it didn't work. (Another re-write of this song would be a good idea because it is has possibilities.)
