I stumbled across Leona Naess while rummaging through the big pile of CDs at my job. The cover art caught my eye, so I sifted it into my "listen to" pile on my desk. I popped the CD into my slow-as-a-stegosaur computer, and I was very pleased with what I heard.
Her new CD "Thirteens" can be a little slow at times, but that is part of its charm. Each song is harmonic and well put-together, with the lyrics revealing a woman who wears her heart on her sleeve. Her background in music composition consistently shines through – each song is a delectable masterpiece of intricacy and emotion.
Naess’s music has been featured on a few hit shows, such as The O.C. (while I pretty much despise the show, I must say the music supervision is on the mark) and Weeds. Her album, Thirteens was released September 16th, and I’m glad I discovered it so early. It gives me time to listen to it over and over again.
Check out my favorite track off the album – "Leave Your Boyfriend Behind," but be sure to buy the whole thing and check out the rest of it!
