BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

Album: Talkin' Blues
Track: Get Up Stand Up (sick and tired of the bullshit game version)
(8)

As we drove around on this sunny L.A. afternoon, I heard Get Up Stand Up on the radio today. It was the original that most of us have heard from the magnificent Legend compilation. But I prefer the version from my favorite Marley album Talkin' Blues. It's my fave because of the live groove vibe felt from the recordings made live in the studio of San Fransisco's KSAN-FM in 1973. You see during that year Marley and his Wailers were opening up for Sly and the Family Stone. During this tour but Bob and his band of Trenchtown Prophets were too good and more popular than Sly's. So good that they get booted off the tour.Pennyless and no where to go, California came a calling. KSAN set up some shows and even invited Bob and the Wailers for a radio session which is what makes up most of Talkin' Blues.

This version fo Get Up Stand Up is uncensored. I never liked the edited mix where Tosh sings "We sick an' tired of-a your ism-skism game." During these KSAN sessions, Tosh sang the original lyrics, "We sick an' tired of-a your bullshit game." It's funny how that word just rolls perfectly off the tongue, more so than "ism-skism."

If you get a chance pick up Talkin' Blues. A most for any and all Marley fans. And during this election year this Marley classic should be our anthem. Get Up and Stand Up for Your Rights!

Unfortunately, I've heard him played way too much by bros blasting it on Kroq.

Mindful says:

I'm pretty sick and tired of the bullshit game but I will never get sick and tired of Bob.
