I'm still sick but feeling better; so much that I dug out this vintage Mellow Gold era b-side to share with all my Mogger amigos. I'm still in my Beck mode and this is a personal favorite of all his non album tracks. Corvette Bummer reminds me of my dreadful corporate record store job at a mall in San Antonio. I had this asshole of a boss who had no business running a record shop. Everytime he went home, it was party time at Hastings. We'd crank out the jams and even make mix tapes when he wasn't around.
Corvette Bummer, I love this song title, is indicative of a younger and hilarious Beck of the nineties before we lost our innocence after 9/11. It was a different time the 90s. I was thinking of a word to be describe the 90s and the only one I could come up with was overindulgence. There wasn't an overwhelming sense of fear that's around today. When I hear Corvette Bummer I think back to a time where we didn't have to worry about gas prices, recession, attacks... I could go on, but this is a fun song to take me away of my ills that are attempting to bring me down today.
How can you not smile when you hear Beck laugh after his brilliantly absurd lyrics like these?
"Gonna fly like a squirrel, gonna swing like a chicken
Gonna weed-whack a plate of noodles in the afternoon
Gonna melt like a weasel, gonna fry like a kid
Gonna get my walkie-talkie and some mustard and some mayonnaise
And a mermaid and some macaroni, bricks, and some telephone wires
And phone machines and a fax machine and a... hahaha!"

i've never heard this before, but this is an absolutely fantastic track. Beck is one of the best and his early Mellow Gold/Odelay stuff is great. i gotta start listening to more of the b-sides though, because this is just awesome.

i think that might be the best headline ever published on MOG! great post. Mellow Gold is still my favorite Beck album, so thanks for bringing it to MOG!

I can almost feel the spit as he pronounces his "B's" and "P's"
