Silencio - Ibrahim Ferrer & The Buena Vista Social Club

Posted about 1 year ago

Ibrahim Ferrer is an inspiration. This is the singer that Ry Cooder dubbed the Nat King Cole of Cuba. This is the man who for forty years was forgotton and worked shining shoes on the streets of Havana until Ry Cooder came a calling and looking for the original Buena Vista Social Club. At age 67, Cooder found Ferrer and the rest of the Social cCub recorded and album and they finally found the respect and success that they rightly deserved.

For me it's a story of a man who never gave up and even at age 70 was still making music and was humbled by all the accolades he received during the twilight of his life. I hear Ferrer and his voice as an inspiration to keep on with the faith, hope and determination of my creative voice that spark my days in relative obscurity.

Silencio is one of my favorite Ferrer songs. All you have to do wis watch the clip below and see why Silencio reminds me of Havana and the beautiful country I one day will finally experience with my own eyes. I know when that day happens, Ferrer and the Buena Vista Social Club will be the soundtrack of my future visit.

What a tune right?! Ibram and the Social Club never get old, even as over played as they are. You walk in to any pub or boutique and hear it and it never gets cliche. Good stuff!
