Today we were watching Almost Famous OnDemand. I've had Bowie's live cover in my head since we watched the scene when William's sister, Zoey Deschanel, played the original for her mother, Frances McDormand, as the reason she was leaving home. As I heard the song, I mentioned to Michelle that I had a version by Bowie.
This cover is simply Bowie's ode to America. He played this at the Concert for New York in honor of the fallen heroes on 9/11. This is one of the most unique renditions ever recorded by Bowie, so different from the original by Simon & Garfunkel.

What a great version and great Bowie cover!
Have you heard him play it live or is this the only known time he's played the song in concert?

No I haven't heard him play this live. As far as I know, this is the only time Bowie has ever covered this song life.
