Bob Dylan - Things Have Changed
Uploaded by dylanne

It happened again last night, I turned on the radio to my station 100.3 and what comes over the airwaves "Things Have Changed" by Bob Dylan. I had to immediately crank it up. Hearing this song echoes me of my life in Chicago right before my life changed. It reminds me of waiting for the Red Line EL Train at Fullerton. That was my stop to my job at Tower Records at Lincoln Park.

I can still fill the sting of the arctic Windy City air blowing right through me as I waited for the last train. It was so cold that I could look down on my now deceased I-Pod and it was, after only a few minutes, already growing icicles. It was so freaking cold that the way I would keep warm was turning up the volume singing and dancing up on the platform. This was way past midnight and I was usually alone so I didn't care who looked at me.

Ironically enough, I just thought about this, waiting at the Fullerton station and I the first city I moved to away from Chicago was Fullerton, California. This was when I met my former fiance and moved west to be with her and the kids.

Of course, you can't even talk about "Things Have Changed" without mentioning Curtis Hanson's brilliant film Wonder Boys. Another film that I fell in love with again while living in Chicago. That was my movie. I so related to Michael Douglas' character as a writer so paralyzed with fear of rejection, writers block and his addiction to herb that's so understandable.

And what can you say about the video above? I always thought that Dylan looked Chaplin-esque. It was the happiest we had seen him in years. He had to be to have Hanson direct him in the video. Dylan must have really loved the movie, and it was a good one. He's got good taste.
