WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Yes, or first impressions of Viva La Vida

Posted about 1 year ago

My first impressions of Coldplay's latest: It's lovely, orchestral, ambient, confident and timeless.

It sounds like their own Unforgettable Fire. An imperfect masterpiece.

Is it just me or does Lovers in Japan sound like a cross between James' Sometimes and Where the Streets have no Name? Both songs were produced by Eno.

The album defintely does have that magic Eno touch. I so like the way the Viva La Vida flows. Theirs a depth to Vida that's been missing on Coldplay's previous songs and albums. They're reached for the heavens and pulled out something majestic and mystical.

It's a very uplifting album and daring album.

My favorite of theirs so far, so much better than X & Y.

I read that Coldplay got the first part of their album title from a Frida Kahlo painting. Speaking of, this reminds me of something that I saw in the airport in San Antonio. This is something so sacreligious that I everytime I see this, when I go back to visit, it's a sign that I know I made the right choice moving away from the Lone Scar State.

Can you believe this? Frida Margaritas? I was disgusted. Such a shame turning one of the most influential artists into an advert for pushing margaritas.

Somehere Frida is turning in her grave. I haven't had a margarita since I saw this. I'm protesting.

I'll crank up Viva La Vida, a proper tribute to Frida that I know she would appreciate, so much more than this freaking advertisment.

I was planning on buying this today on my way home from work.  I'm glad you liked it.  We have similar taste in a lot of music so your opinion is valuable to me :)

Thanks, we do have similar taste.

I'm glad I finally joined MOG. This is something I wanted to do for ages.

As for Coldplay, when I first heard Violet Hill, I wasn't too impressed. But then Viva La Vida became our theme song for Italia. While we were in Rome, and they love their Coldplay in Europe, Violet Hill's video was all over MTV. I started to get more intrigued.

I'm a fan of Eno, especially with his work with James and his production on U2's albums are classics, I feel for Coldplay it's a match made for success.

Viva La Vida or Death and All of his Friends is a different album just like U2's Unforgettable Fire was a change in their sound. This is the album where Coldplay is attepting to cement their legacy in greatness. They already have the sales and world wide adoration. I feel they want to be remember as artists who inspired and changed music for a new generation of bands. Viva La Vida is the first step in that direction.
