Latin Simone (Que Pasa Con Tigo) - Gorillaz featuring Ibrahim Ferrer

Posted 5 months ago

Latin Simone and the Gorillaz first album reminds me of living in New Orleans. I remember when we first got the import edition, I was working at Tower and our import buyer Bryan comes up to me handing me a copy of the Gorillaz disc and says, "Hey we just got something in that I know you're gonna love."

He was so right.

After work we all went to our favorite bar in the French Quarter and spun the debut album over and over again all night long. (For those of you strangers to New Orleans, there is no last call in Myth City. I used to joke the only last call in N.O. is the last sound a tourist makes before he passes out on the sidewalk.)

My favorite track off Gorillaz is this one with the great Cuban singer Ibrahim Ferrer on vocals. What a perfect collaboration Brit funky beats with Ferrer. Hearing Latin Simone still brings me back to those wild days and nights in New Orleans. Good times!

I absolutely love this song , it takes me back to when I was 8 , growing up in NY Spanish Harlem , and my dad would play a particular song by Celia Cruz all the time , like : EVERY NIGHT after work , and he would place me on his feet and teach me to tango ( like a Spaniard ) - we are Greek of course LOL , but my dad played guitar better than anyone I have ever heard of till this day ..this song reminds me f my father RIP ..and somehow , I know he's up there playing his guitar , maybe in the company of all the great ones he admired :) Thank you for posting this - I love Gorillaz , but I never expected a song like this from them - and Ibrahim is sensational !
