I used to be a member of a music club at work, and from time to time, we'd come up with questions to discover the sounds of our individual music tastes. One of my favorites is, what is the opening theme song to the film that is yr life? Pick a song that best describes the opening scene, that you imagine would be the motion picture that is yr vida.
Shine from David Gray is my theme song. For me within Shine holds the long, turbulant, winding and magical moments that we all experience in our lives, especially mine. First off, I went to go see a David Gray show at the House of Blues in New Orleans during his White Ladder tour. But the thing is what that Gray's concert was an all ages show, which hardly ever happens in N.O. It's rare that a show will start before midnight. So when I took my then girlfriend we arrived at the encore. We walked in as David Gray played Shine. And even though it was a bummer to arrive late but just to hear him play Shine was worth it all.
The lyrics that I cling to, still to this day has to be:
"But as it unfolds
As is all unwinds
Remember your soul is the one thing
You just can't compromise
Step out of the shadow
We're gonna go where we can shine"
Through out the peaks and valleys inside David Gray's words there's still lights of hope within the images of darkness. This is why I picked Shine as the theme song to the opening scene to the film that is my life?
Now it's yr turn, pick a song...

The first thing to come to mind is Verve's 'Bittersweet Symphony', though my inclination is to try and find a Cohen song that fits.
But I keep coming back to 'Bittersweet Symphony', so maybe that's it.
Good choice!
We heard lots of The Verve when we were in Italy. They love the Richard Ashcroft in Rome!
It's either 'Lust For Life' - though the scene isn't the one from Trainspotting, lol! (It would be from Superfly, bigger lol) - or 'Search And Destroy': I'm a streetwalking cheetah with a heart full of napalm". Don't believe the calm exterior - those words sum up my feelings really well.
Blue by The Jayhawks....that song always feels like something I should have written.
I was first thinking The Stooges (or Ig)-but I guess I'm just too mellow...
btw-closing credits would be Amazing Grace...although I'm not sure by who yet.
