WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT

I had a Elliott Smithsong stuck floating in my head but I couldn't think of the name. I was trying to figure it out and even asked Michelle but the only thing I could remember was the chords to the melody. But without a guitar, I had on which I left in New Orleans way back when, it's difficult to describe a song by singing the notes to someone. So we sat in the car, in the dark playing all of Elliott's early CD's. I could have sworn it was on his first few discs but I was wrong. When we went inside the house I played just about every song on my PC and I finally found it, Sweet Adeline.

Does this happen to anyone else? You get the chords of a song stuck in yr head but you can't remember the lyrics? I hate it when this happens. So I have to go around the whole day humming some chords hoping the name of the song will appear out of nowhere.

I realized why I thought Sweet Adeline was on one of Elliott's first albums. The beginning of the song has a sweet and simple chord projection but sounds like anything from Either/Or or Roman Candle but 1.34 in is where the dymanic arrangement appears like a blast of beautiful colors coming to life.

XO is the first album Elliott made on Dreamworks. That's why there's more color and textures within his music on XO. It's the album where he finally had the time and resources to use more rhythms to augment the sounds in his head.
