This is not a happy song. It is not meant to brighten your day. It is, however, a very well-done piece of art.
Some may recognize this song from the final scene of the movie Donnie Darko. This is a remake of Mad World by Tears for Fears. Their version is, in my opinion, mediocre at best. The lyrics are well done, but there's no force behind the words. This version is fueled by a potent mix of longing and depression. Jules' voice has a somewhat ethereal quality which adds even more to the feeling of loss. Music and lyrics intertwine perfectly, surrounding the listener's mind with emotion.
