An open letter to all those new to MOG...and not so new

Posted about 5 years ago
I start with a big WELCOME, browse around, check out the Mog-O-Sphere.I myself have only been here a few days short of a month but I feel like I've found a family. A family in the way of music freaks. You've got the Metalheads, Emo Mongers, Vinyl lovers, Indie purists, Country kickers, Pop fanatics, Disco ducks, RAWKers, Ambient Illusionists, Be-Bop babies, Hip Hop homies, Rap renegades, Crooner cats, Jazz hipsters. R&B swayers and the list goes on and on. The best part is, one person can be all of these and more. You've got the goofballs, and the political activists, the college crowd and the worker bees, the youth and the well, not so young but always young at heart, the lurkers and the talkers. We join together to form this community of love and respect for one of the things every country has in common and that's MUSIC.As you already know, music is life and for ever emotion there is a genre. Some of the best people I've met in here, if left to other places would say we have low compatiblity but they're wrong. Their favorite genre maybe different than yours but the love for the music is the same. You'll be find some new music and be introduced to some old. So take a seat, kick off your shoes, show respect, open your mind and most importantly have fun. You too will be transMOGrified, into a Mogger. On that note, I bid you adieu and wander off to bed.

  5. highfidelity62 says I often sit around (often while driving or while sitting in my "reading room" -- best known as the bathroom) and let my mind wonder. On occasion, I brainstorm the next big thing. As I like to refer to it: "My billion dollar idea." This idea is constantly changing, and of course, it directly proportional to the date of my early retirement. I've had two that I'm quite proud of. One is a take-off on the spork. I think I had this idea back in elementary school. Why not take one end of the spork and add a knife-like seraded edge. It would be a sporkife. I'll stop there. Someone beat me to it and it's now a product. I was sad. My second idea was a networking site, similar to MySpace I suppose, where music enthusiasts could upload their playlists, rate their music, listen to new or new-to-you bands and meet others with the same intentions. Obviously, several people have beat me to that punch. No worries. I was not sad when I found the Mog. I spend plenty of time searching bands I like on iTunes, simply with the end goal of looking at the "listeners also bought" section. The only problem with iTunes is that its users often get so pumped after they hear a new CD from their favorite artist/band that they give it 4 stars and write a fantastic review. I enjoy that at Mog, everyone (or most everyone) has well formed opinions about the bands on their playlists. I've gone on too long. Cheers!

Plus, I have to tell you that I love Brighten... I have their cd which I ordered through Myspace because of a message they sent me...
