Questioning Coldplay

Posted about 5 years ago
So here's the question I ask...Am I the only one that thinks Coldplay isn't that big of a deal? I mean there are a few songs I like including the one I tagged this post with, but in general, I'm really not too impressed. They remind me of Beyonce, not the style but to the point where everything just kind of sounds the same. I see on so many lists not just here but on other sites that Coldplay is one of most frequently listed bands that people love, and hey, everybody has the right to love what they makes them happy, but maybe I'm missing something?

  2. Anna says No, you're fine. Same song, different titles, last 10 years.

  3. Kid Charming says I found what I heard of Parachutes pretty annoying. Someone gave me A Rush of Blood to the Head as a gift, and I found myself liking about half of it quite a bit, and not caring to much either way about the other half. I've only heard a couple of songs from the last one, but I wasn't impressed.

  6. edame says I think their first two albums were very good in the adult contemporary type of way, but then their magic ran out for me.

Oh, I'll have to check out the link.  I'll have to agree with you about same song different lyrics...last ten years.  Just like Phil Collins, as my man says.  I have to agree.

My son told me once that Coldplay's music is considered depressing; I asked my daughter (different music generation) and she said not so much but yah.  I tend to agree with both but I think it's the mood you're in or the disposition you keep.

I like Clocks, Rush of Blood to the Head, and When I Ruled the World.  Actually, I find the last song anything but depressing.  I wonder what my son might think about that song - whether-or-not it's depressing.  Heh.  Definitely not as much as Evenescence, that's for sure!  Magic?  Was he/were they supposed to have a wave for each an every song?  I don't think so.  I think  he has/they've done pretty well for himself/themselves over the years with the success that has been had, however.  Let them be.
