Tommy Dorsey Plays “Indian Love Call”

Posted over 3 years ago

Another operetta favorite is "Indian Love Call," written by Rudolf Friml and lyricists Otto Harbach and Oscar Hammerstein II for the 1924 hit stage musical "Rose Marie" The most memorable performance on film will always remain Nelson Eddy and Jeannette MacDonald warbling for each other. In this rendition, Tommy Dorsey is the leading voice in this satin smooth encore for that muted romantic Dorsey horn. Clarinet led saxes add much warmth to the melodic line with little swinging fillers. Charlie Shavers then enters in the swinging break before the ensemble takes over in swinging this love call right into the listener's hearts. Then Tommy Dorsey comes back, returning the song to its romantic images right into the final climax.
