The little known film musical "Sing Baby Sing" had a song written by Sidney D. Mitchell and music composed by Louis Alter that would later become one of the staples of the American song book. "You Turned the Tables On Me" also serves as an introduction to the marvelous vocalist Helen Ward who had joined the Goodman band in 1935 and stayed with the orchestra until she got married and broke everyone's hearts. The arrangement is a deceptively simple one in which Ward reaches across the ages and communicates directly to all listeners with great warmth and appeal..

Lovely song, and she nails it. Perfect choice of photo.
Spike,
You're right on both counts! The Helen Ward photo is one of the two best of her I have ever seen. There is a very unflattering photo which may have been taken in the early 1940's that is really bad and makes her look like a drowned rat--she's quite thin in that one so I can only guess it may have been taken in a hurry backstage after a draining set. She was considered quite a beautiful woman and a head turner. She had talks with Goodman about marriage in 1936 but was refused so what was Goodman's loss was another man's gain.
Anyways glad you enjoyed the performance!
Yours sincerely,
