Hermann Scherchen Conducts Haydn's Symphony No. 102 in B-flat Major - 4rth movement

Posted over 1 year ago

The concluding fourth movement is marked Presto. And Presto it is with wild scales and a michieous humor that abounds at every unexpected turn. Add to that a Paprika seasoning of varying dynamic contrasts that come out of nowhere and then disappear. There is a funnyincident near the middle where the serious strings come out with that serious statement of the vivace melody and are answered by piping, mocking woodwinds. This fun pervades the whole movement before the whole symphony ends on a note of exuberant gaiety.

Sadly, this is Musikfriends' last post.  He passed away on October 02, 2010 at the age of 56.  There will be a Farewell tribute concert for him on October 17th on Orchestra Hall hosted by Susan McCray on KSAV.org at NOON Pacific and Eastern Time.  Orchestra Hall will feature some of Musikfriends' favorite classical works including Rachmaninoff's Third concerto, Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations from Suite No. 3.  He said he felt close to those and knew them by heart.

This is the saddest news. I feel so bad for not checking in any sooner.

You will be truly missed, Musikfriend. Your friend, Bartleby

I only heard the news today.  I'm really sad because I lost my reference point in the Mog.  I learned a lot from Richard's comments on each song he posted. Who missed the radio tribute, please, see:  http://mog.com/carrfan/blog/2433136

Honestly my thrill for music blogging died when you left this world, musikfriend. This sabbatical I have taken seriously has been linked to you. Although I never saw your face, I felt your warmth. When I do write and experience music shows, you are on my mind. I know though that you are on the other side smiling.

I think I have *felt* your presence when I experience the music of one of the artists that you enjoyed. Continue to thrive in heaven and one day we will see each other.

By the way..I really admire that you never shared that you were not well. You are very much like me where we keep certain things private but I know that you wouldn't want anyone to feel sorry for you. Thank you for emphasizing a lesson that my parents always have taught me which is to keep quiet about certain things. YOU ARE A CLASS ACT! xo

**by the way, could you keep me focused and OFF of this internet so I can focus for on a project due in February. I seriously need JESUS and a divine intervention for this because I am easily distracted when I am frustrated at times. THANK YOU**
