The Four Freshmen Sing "(Get Your Kicks On) Route 66"

Posted almost 4 years ago

Later generations remember Bobby Troup as a doctor on the NBC Television show "Emergency" with his lovely wife Julie London as Nurse Dixie. However, long before that, Bobby Troup was a jazz pianist and song writer of the first grade and one of his greatest hits was with "(Get Your Kicks On) Route 66" which was a tribute to America's first cross country highway. The song describes nearly every stop along the way. It's a laid back swinger as performed by The Four Freshmen against a background of trombones as recorded September 11, 1959. Ross Barbour gets to perform a magnificently fluid trumpet solo.

I'm a fool for their harmonies.  This is a great version.
