The Four Freshmen Sing "It Happened Once Before"

Posted over 3 years ago

During the long run of The Four Freshmen, there were numerous changes as there would be with any group of talented, imaginative guys. The first one to leave was Hal Kratzsch who was also their most enthusiastic member. This came in 1953 when, after getting married and returning to Warsaw, Indiana to settle, he decided to announce to the others members that hie would leave after a replacement was found. Ken Errair took over beginning in May 1953. Ken's stay lasted until after the group's second album when he announced his intentions of leaving, recommending his friend Ken Albers. Don Barbour was the next to leave the group in 1960, expressing his displeasure with the group taking on more commercial music. He was to have started a career as a soloist but was killed in an auto crash in 1961. Bill Comstock came on board, leaving in 1972. Ross Barbour retired in 197, Ken Albers in 1982. Both men left music to take up the burgeoning computer industry in Simi Valley, CA. "It Happened Once Before" is about a love still remembered strongly. This rendition explores the full range of this group's tremendous vocal abilities. There is a tremendous trombone solo by Bob Flanigan.
