Rob McConnell & The Boss Brass Play "Things Ain't What They Used To Be"

Posted about 1 year ago
Mercer Ellington wrote it in 1940s for his father’s big band and we have another world renowned musician playing “Things Ain’t What They Used To Be.” Rob McConnell is one of the great natural wonders of Canadian jazz and has a reputation for playing a brand of mellow yet swinging mainstream jazz for decades. The rhythm section sets the pace for a relaxed and very loose rendition with a great guitarist setting the stage for a unison brass statement of great power before the tenor saxist takes over with a blues tinged solo. The guitarist makes another appearance before the band resumes in a joyfully full bodied ensemble passage which ends on a positively conclusive note!
