Stan Getz (1927 - 1991) was called “The Sound” early on because of his lyrical, warm sound he produced on his tenor saxophone. Of this quality of tone on his sax, John Coltrane said simply, “We’d all play like that . . . if we could.” A simple piano introduction in a ragtime style contrasts with the warm, emotional performance Getz gets from his tenor sax. “Blue Skies” was written by Irving Berlin in 1927 for his musical “Betsy.”

My Trusted MOGs
Getz is a beautiful player. Very nice and mellow tune for a grey Monday, perhaps the next best thing to curling up with a good book, which I think I'll do next.
