In 2005, Shank formed his own big band and played at the 40th Anniversary concert celebrating Stan Kenton's Neophonic Orchestra, one that fused the worlds of jazz and classical music with some exciting listening for serious music lovers of all inclinations. A 2008 DVD release proved even more popular. Entitled "Bud Shank: 'Against the Tide" A Portrait of a Jazz Legend" was produced and directed by Graham Carter of Jazzed Media released by Jazzed Media . To date, this DVD has been garnered 4 independent film awards including an Aurora Awards Gold.
