Billie Holiday Sings "Lover Man"

Although she continued to tour throughout the 1950's, the intensity of her early years was largely absent from the very late years of Billie Holiday's life. Yet there was enough left to give highly poignant renditions that were shot through with a wounded heart and soul. Nowhere is this better heard than in this performance of a Holiday classic: "Lover Man." The strings play such an important part to the despondant mood of this rendition that the whole recording would not be as interesting as it is because they set the entire landscape for this journey into a depression.
