Track:Jumpin' With Symphony Sid
“Jumpin’ With Symphony Sid” is a dedication to one of the best known New York City area disc jockeys, Sid Torrin (1909 - 1983) who was called “the frantic one” and was quite knowledgeable on what the latest trends in jazz were as well as who the people playing the music. This was in addition to his famous use of hipster lingo. His live shows from all over the New York City night club circuits were an institution in the 1940's through the 1960's. It begins with the band shouting “Let’s jump with Symphony Sid” which leads into an exciting upwardly moving riff that is its highly memorable theme. There are frighteningly fast licks from Gillespie and the entire trumpet section. The energy is pulsating and throbbing Imagine hearing this from a band that included fats Navarro, Kenny Clarke, Milt Jackson, John Lewis and, of course, Dizzy Gillespie!
