In 1996, k. d. lang was named an Officer of the Order of Canada, one of the highest orders bestowed on a citizen. And in 1997, lang came out with the album "Drag," a smoke themed album that also had the double meaning expressed in a photo shoot that year of lang being shaved by model Cindy Crawford.
And in 2003, lang joined Tony Bennett for a duet album. Although there are more than a few who don't like this album, it nevertheless yielded some of the most unified singing of both of these fine artist's careers, resulting in a masterpiece of melding two different individuals for the purpose of making as fine an album as could be made.
In 2005, k.d. lang took part on a television program dedicated to the songs of icon Leonard Cohen. Her performance of "Hallelujah" is very touching and represents some of the finest singing one could ever hope to hear in a lifetime.
