k. d. lang (1961 - ) is an extraordinary vocalist hailing from Canada. As an activist, vegatrian, animal rights advocate and openly lesbian, k.d. lang has shown that her artistry knows no boundaries and has succeeded in becoming one of truly great talents from Canada.
lng's inspiration came from Patsy Cline, the one vocalist whom had the greatest influence on her becoming a professional singer while attending Red Deer College. lnag formed a tribute band called The Reclines in 1983, recording a debut album that same year. She also landed a part in a 7 hour long performance drama which told the story of Barney Clark, the first man to receive an artificial heart. This play received strongs reviews and national attention in Canada. Throughout the 1980's k.d. landg sang in country western venues all over Canada, receiving a Juno Award for promising young artist. She gained further attention for taking part on a Roy Orbison tour where she sang with three other back-up vocalists and gaining much attention for her duet with Roy Orbison on "Crying," one Orbison's most immortal hits.
From her 1992 album, we see k.d. lang performing "Constant Craving" from her album "Ingenue" which led her down the path away from country music and into popular music where her great voice belongs. It was a multi-million seller and earned critical praise as well as another Grammy Award for Best Female Popular Performance.
