Patsy Cline Sings "Crazy"

Posted 3 months ago

"Crazy," written by Willie Nelson, was the song that created a fight between producer Owen Bradley and Patsy Cline. Originally, Cline had wanted to record the song the way she had heard Nelson sing the song on a demo recording in 1961. This started a fight between Owen Bradley and Patsy Cline that resulted in a single session devoted to "Crazy" done her way. After several tries, Cline could not sing any of the high notes contained in the song due to the fact that, after her car accident that year (where her forehead had been scarred and she was forced to use considerable make-up to hide the scarring and wearing of head-bands to relieve the pressure). One week later, Cline was in the studios again, this time recording the song Bradley's way and it became another massive hit.

Here, from a "Pet Milk" show from 1962, Patsy Cline sings live in the studio, literally making history as she opened her mouth to sing gorgeously.
