She was called the most beautiful voice in country music. Or for that matter, of all popular music. That rich, creamy contalto voice combined with an emotional intensity links Patsy Cline (1932 - 1962) with her own admired vocalist Judy Garland. The fact that Cline's recordings continue to sell more than 47 years after her death marks her as being one of the immortal song stylists. Her status has never been questioned. Ten years after her death, Patsy Cline was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. The plaque reads, "Her heritage of timeless recordings is testimony to her artistic capacity." Cline always said that she had wanted to be a star on stage and pursued her dream for ten years in spite of great hardship both mentally and physically.
Here, then, is Patsy Cline at her ultimate peak, singing "Sweet Dreams," which was heard on her last completed album for Decca and which also was the name of both the biography and the movie bearing this title.
