Dakota Staton Sings "Broadway"

Posted about 1 year ago
Dakota Staton burst into the jazz vocalist world in 1957 with her Capitol album “The Late, Late Show.” She quickly became a great favorite among musicians and singers alike for her clear-trumpet influenced voice. George Shearing said, “Dakota is dynamic! To hear her sing for the first time is to joyously discover one of the finest jazz singers of our day.” Here is what Shearing was talking about, Dakota Staton singing “Broadway,” one of her signature tunes. It’s a driving spectacular with a great jazz group backing Staton’s highly original vocals.

  2. musikfriend says brittanbf: Thanks for the compliment! Dakota has, for me, the most memorable voice as her records were played on the radio quite a lot out here when I was growing up. This one and "The Late, Late Show" were the two biggest hits that started her career. You have good taste! Yours sincerely, musikfriend
