WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Rosemary Clooney: "By Myself"

    By Myself
Song masters Howard Dietz (words) and Arthur Schwartz (music) wrote “By Myself” for their 1937 stage musical “Between The Devil.” Here Nelson Riddle writes a defiant score that contains an inner pain at finding one’s self all alone. Clooney manages to get under the lyrics and discovers the true nature of what the meaning of the lyrics are all about. She took this arrangement with her in 1977 when she accompanied her friend Bing Crosby on his last British tour (her son Miguel–now a well-known actor–was her drummer on that tour).
