Rosemary Clooney: "You Took Advantage of Me"

  • Track:
    You Took Advantage of Me
Although Linda Ronstadt’s recording of this song is more famous these days, Rosemary Clooney recorded a lower key version with Nelson Riddle in 1960. The good-humored-ness of this arrangement has Clooney singing in counterpoint with the bass trombonist George Roberts. It brings out the total charm we always hear when listening to Rosemary Clooney. And this from a song by Lorenz Hart (words) and Richard Rodgers (music) in 1925 for their musical “Present Arms.”

  1. runobodyii says I love the counterpoint with the bass trombone, and, you are absolutely right, you can hear the smile in Clooney's voice. I'd never paid Clooney much mind. Thanks for bringing her to my attention.

  2. ORY says Wonderful memories of this song with Rosemary Clooney. I meet her at the BlueRoom in New Orleans several times. The last time she asked me to sit at the table with her and have a drink and chat while she autographed all my LPs I had brought with me and did a promo station ID for a radio station I was working for at the time. We spent around 2 hours together chating. I am still looking for a song by her called "where will the dimples be" One day I ll find that great classic.

Sigh...isn't she the best at any song she wraps her voice around? Thanks for posting this classic!
