Al Hirt Plays “Let’s Do Itâ€
-
Artist:

An earlier opus by Cole Porter is his 1928 song "Let's Do It (Let's Fall in Love)" from his stage musical "Paris." Twenty years later, the Rheingold Beer company used it as the basis for their ad campaign of the year. Henri Rene this time writes a coyly expressive chart that is accentuated by Hirt's use of growling through his horn before settling into a nonchalant rendition of the lyrics with humorous asides to the sometimes suggestive lyrics. The band carries on with great gusto, playing against the fabulous solo by Hirt.

I've never heard a horn player shift between tones so much and so adeptly, all the while keeping it so musical. Great version of a great tune.
Spike,
This is one great album. It was Al Hirt's very first for RCA in 1961. His way of going back from plunger to open and back again is tartling, very virtuosi. The arrangements by Henri Rene are also something to marvel at. Glad you liked this selection!
Yours truly,
