Beverly Sills: "Estrelita"

Posted about 1 year ago
“Estrelita”, composed by Mexican composer Manuel Ponce, was a great favorite among listeners in the 1940's. This arrangement was by Andre Kostelanetz originally intended for his wife, Lily Pons, to sing in concert. Beverly Sills recorded this song and chart in 1962 when she was a very obscure artist although she had been singing professionally since the late 1930's as a child. The song itself tells about the broken heart of a lover who asks “the little star” (Estrelita) if his beloved still loves him.
