Long before Paris Hilton was a gleam in her father's eyes was the creation of the immortal "April in Paris." Written in 1932 with words by E. Y. Harburg and music by Vernon Duke (a pseudonym of Vernon Dukelsky), it appeared in their stage musical "Walk a Little Faster" starring the forever witty Beatrice Lillie. Since that time, it has been the property of numerous singers, a tribute to the song's mournful lyrics reflecting on the city. An appropriate introduction on a ticking clock leads into a soft as chiffon trombone solo by Tommy Dorsey that leads into a full ensemble statement of the last part of the main melodic theme before the band takes over with a rich, full bodied string section joining in to give a rueful feeling. A steamy sax section provides the back drop for Boomie Richman's tenor sax before Dorsey returns to wrap up the proceedings with a grand flourish.
