Billy Butterfield Plays “Yesterdays”

Posted over 2 years ago

One of the more popular Jerome Kern scores is the one he wrote for his 1933 stage musical "Roberta" which had lyrics by Otto Harbach which had Bob Hope and Fay Templeton as its stars with Sydney Greenstreet in a supporting role. This superb Bill Stegmeyer arrangement comes from a May 1947 recording session which spotlights the melancholy romanticism of Billy Butterfield's golden toned horn with strong support from the band with an unusual up tempo interruption before quickly resolving back into the dark and a very abrupt ending.

    Spike,

Glad you liked it! This one of those songs that can make or break a recording if it's not done right. Fortunately, here it is done right by a professional musician. Glad you liked it!

    Yours truly, musikfriend
